About

Siena was founded with the mission to provide an affordable liberal arts education to students of modest means. Endowed scholarships are crucial to helping Siena continue its commitment to assist young men and women who are full of academic promise and eager to learn, but who lack the financial resources to attend college.

Endowed scholarships have made -- and continue to make -- a difference in the lives of countless Siena students. Because more than 75 percent of Siena students receive financial assistance, providing ample financial aid is essential to maintaining Siena's reputation for academic excellence and value.

An endowed scholarship is an ideal way to perpetuate a family or corporate name, memorialize a loved one or commemorate a special event. It will help Siena and future generations of students while creating a lasting tribute to the donor's generosity.

The support and generosity of individuals and families, colleagues and friends, corporations and organizations, alumni and parents, is attested to by our many named scholarships.

How do I create a scholarship?

Creating an endowed scholarship at Siena is easier than you might think. To start a named scholarship, Siena requires an investment of at least $30,000, payable over five years. Some corporate sponsors may establish a scholarship in the name of their business. Members of a family or group -- regardless of whether they went to Siena -- can join together to put the establishment of a Family or Group Scholarship well within reach.

An endowed Scholarship, where the investment earnings only are expended annually, is your gift to Siena students for generations. The principal is maintained intact, creating a lasting tribute to your generosity.

What happens after I decide to create a Named Scholarship?

You'll work with Siena's Development Office to establish a payment schedule, terms, and details of your Scholarship. A description of your Scholarship will appear each year in the College Catalog, which will be used by the College as the guideline in making awards to students.

Can I choose the preferences for my scholarship? Yes, depending on the level of the scholarship gift:

  • $30,000 – You may name the scholarship.
  • $50,000 - You may name the scholarship and the school in which the student is enrolled.
  • $100,000 - You may name the scholarship, and designate a major area of study.
  • $250,000 - You may name the scholarship and either the state of residency, or designate an award to a son/daughter of a particular company employee, or student enrolled in a specific program
  • $500,000 - You may name the scholarship and determine the maximum financial aid impact.

Can I make additional gifts to our Scholarship Endowment after the first five years?

You may add to your Scholarship at any time. The only requirement is that the endowment must be at least $30,000 after five years.

How do I make a gift to a scholarship?

Philanthropy at Siena College

The essence of philanthropy at Siena College truly lies in its origin with the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province and their establishment of the college in 1937.  The Franciscans gave life to an academic idea, 75 years ago, and continue to give a part of themselves in their ongoing vision to nurture this institution of excellent liberal arts education in so many valuable ways.  There are numerous examples, noted throughout the campus, in which these faith-filled, dedicated individuals have been honored. We have highlighted the compassion and generosity of the Franciscan Friars in ways that include plaques or statues, located around the College grounds.  Read more...
